My experience
Sarah Gettings
Project Coordinator

How long have you been with Future Quest?
I have worked for Future Quest since the launch in 2017 and I previously worked in other roles at UWE Bristol in Recruitment & Outreach, Collaborative Partnerships and in the Faculty of Business & Law programme administration team.
What does your current role within Future Quest involve?
I ‘account manage’ a number of Bristol and South Gloucestershire schools who are participating in the Future Quest programme. This involves meeting schools, booking activities and some activity delivery. I also have a major role in the co-ordination of our Healthcare programme and I’m involved in the line management of our Graduate Interns, who take on most of our activity delivery.
What is your background/history before Future Quest?
I am originally from the South-West and now live in South Bristol. I studied Media & Cultural Studies and Writing & Publishing at Middlesex University and started out working in publishing. I then spent a few years in Dublin, where I started my career in Higher Education, working as an Exams Secretary for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and later returned to the west country to work at UWE Bristol.
Why did you join Future Quest?
I was excited to be involved in a new government-funded collaborative programme that would positively impact the area I’m living in.
What do you like most about working at Future Quest?
I like being able to provide and connect young people with opportunities that they might not otherwise have and seeing the positive effects.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy reading thrillers, walking, singing and generally improving my fitness and wellbeing. I also like trying new things and visiting new places.
What is your favourite TV series/film?
I love anything Nordic noir, but my favourite films are Moulin Rouge and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
What is an interesting fact about yourself?
I ate a witchetty grub in Australia.
What is your favourite place in Bristol?
You’ll often find me walking around the Bristol harbourside.
What advice would you give your younger self about being a student/your career?
Enjoy every moment, don’t worry about what others may think, take some risks and don’t be afraid to fail as this is how you will learn.
