17 University of Bristol and UWE Bristol students tell their stories under these themes:

I didn’t think HE was for me

BAME student experience

Women in STEM

The stories cover a wide range of challenges and life experiences. But what the students all have in common is that they overcame obstacles or doubts and went on to thrive at university.

Some struggled at school or failed exams. Others doubted their abilities and couldn’t see themselves in Higher Education.

Or they joined the world of work and did apprenticeships before they discovered what truly motivates them.

Others had the confidence to do what was right for them when it didn’t fit their family’s or community’s expectations.

The students also share how they made the transition to university work for them. They describe the friendships they made, the support that helped them do well on their course and what they gained from volunteering and joining student societies.

Anyone can watch and read the stories. And Year 11, 12 and 13 students can also meet these students via a live online text-only chat.

They can ask questions about the choices the students made, their transition to university, student life and what they wished they'd known about Higher Education when they were at school.

Students can sign up for each of the three themed chats here.
