'Teaching is goal orientated, mentoring is child-centred'

Cohort schools shared some of the fantastic pre-16 mentoring that was delivered last year at our Best Practice Event on 27th September. As well as the Future Quest desired outcomes that we asked schools to focus on for their Year 11's, staff observed improvements in behaviour and resilience during the tough exam season; more positive attitudes among students; more efficient revision practices and the transformative effects of workplace visits and meetings with employers.

In preparation for this year’s mentoring we are busy supporting link teachers with planning and resources and delivering in-house mentoring training for staff in schools. In addition, we are responding to requests for sourcing business volunteers to deliver specific sessions for the students on a variety of topics.

During the year we will gather all the information, feedback and resources that we’ve received from schools. These will be collated and organised to create a mentoring toolkit which will be freely available to all Future Quest schools. We hope this toolkit will encourage a legacy for the programme beyond the Office for Students funding.
